Core Zone and Buffer Zone:

The central part of the Kanha National Park is the Core Zone which shares its boundary with the buffer zone. Its an important area, which is strictly look after by the forest department inorder to conserve the wild life and the natural resources. The best tiger sighting zones of Kanha are : Sarhi, Mukki, and Kisli.

The adjoining area of the core zone is known as buffer zone where nature is conserved and alongside the land and water is used by the human also. The buffer zones of Kanha are Khatia, Sijhora, Phen and Khapa.

Kanha Core Zones

The core zone of Kanha has open meadows. The vegetation of Kanha offer some unique sightings with bamboo and grasslands. There is a Schaller road on Kanha Zone which is dedicated to a conservationist and a researcher, George Schaller who wrote a book, “The Tiger and the Deer” which is completely based on Kanha Park. There is one more tourist attraction, Shravan Taal, which is known for Killing of Shravan Kumar by King Dashrath by mistake for a deer. Inside the Kanha Zone, there is a Kanha museum which is famous to preserve the local culture and showcase the history of Kanha.

Sarhi Core Zone:

This zone has larger meadows with dry deciduous forest. One of the famous is Saunf meadow amidst which the Barasingha was spotted for the first time in 1966. This zone is easily accessed through a common road via Kisli Zone. On the way, one has to encounter the towering Saal forest. This zone is situated on the northern direction of Kanha National Park.

Mukki cORE Zone:

This zone is well known for good sightings. Here the landscape includes Bamboo, Saal and Grasslands. It is located on the southern direction of Kanha and has a separate gate famous by the name of Mukki Entrance Gate. This Zone is best for Tiger Sighting as per the Tiger Sighting Index.

Kisli Core Zone

This zone has scenic grasslands and elegant Saal forests with bamboo vegetation. This zone is also famous by Khatia Zone.

In Kanha National Park, the major safari zones are said to be the Core Zones. The buffer zones of Kanha are easily accessible from the different entrance gates of Kanha. Presently there are three main gates to access Kanha National Park. They are Khatia Gate, Mukki Gate and Sarhi Gate. All the four Core Zones which are easily accessible from the different entry gates are very much popular amidst the tourists.
